Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM)

Lea / October 2, 2025

GSM includes symptoms like vaginal dryness, irritation, burning, urinary frequency or urgency, recurrent urinary infections, and pain during sex. These symptoms are caused by estrogen deficiency, which affects the tissues of the vagina, vulva, urethra, and bladder.

Suggestions:

Vaginal moisturizers and lubricants may provide relief for dryness and discomfort.

Low-dose vaginal estrogen treatments can be effective and are available for long-term use if needed-ask your healthcare provider if they are suitable for you.

If you experience pain during sex or frequent urinary infections, discuss these symptoms openly with your provider to explore treatment options.
